The Best Desserts in Montréal
Someone at Lambert had the idea of direct flights from STL to YUL. YUL is the airport code for Montréal, Quebec. Me, Justin and our two great friends, Candace and Nora, took advantage of this new offer and planned a couple's trip to Canada. This two-and-a-half-hour flight was comfortable and quick. We landed early in the afternoon, giving us plenty of time to settle into our rooms and grab a quick lunch near our hotel.
Staying in the Old Port of Montréal worked for our vacation experience. From our Hotel Hyatt Centric Montréal (621 Notre-Dame St), we could easily catch a ride share or enjoy a leisure walk around the surrounding neighborhoods. On our first afternoon in the city, we walked to the Playground at the Old Port located at 1 Clock Tower Quay St. This tourist and event site draws many visitors. There are lots of shops and activities. Locals and tourists can also enjoy its beautiful view of the St. Lawrence River walking along the path.
The next spot the first spot on the dessert tour is Café Leo. It's an excellent spot for pastries, and I enjoyed the latte I picked up here. Our next stop was Havre aux Glaces, also located at 7070 Henri Julien Ave. At our tour guide’s recommendation, I sampled the maple ice cream. This sweet shop was just a nice break from bicycling and I will return to this stall on my next Montréal.
After all that bicycling, we were hungry for lunch, so we went to a highly recommended lunch spot: India Rosa, located at 1241 Mont-Royal Ave, specializing in Indian cuisine. We had great drinks and food, all very tasty. I highly recommend this restaurant. After a 15-minute walk, we stopped by Kouign Amann Bakery. Justin picked up an Apple Galette. It comes as no surprise that by mid-afternoon, the variety in the pastry selection was pretty much nonexistent. Go early for more options.
Next, we stopped at Boulangerie Le Toledo, located at 351 Mont-Royal Ave. Even in the midafternoon, they still had a great selection of sweets and bread. I picked up an apple tart. The flavor was delicate and lightly sweet, and the texture was beautiful. I'm sure any of the dessert options would be delicious.
One of the things I loved about Montréal was the public art. There were many murals done in many different styles by different artists. Our next dessert tour stop is Sophie Sucrée, located at 3770 St Laurent Blvd. It's a fantastic little bakery that specializes in vegan baked goods. My friend Nora gave their chocolate chip croissant high marks.
One of my favorite bakeries was located near our hotel. La Cave à Manger Boulangerie is located at 386 Rue Saint-Paul. I picked up a cinnamon roll because it is hard to pass on one, and I would put this on my top-ten list for cinnamon rolls.
Next up is Le Petit Dep, located at 179 Saint-Paul. It's a triangle-cornered building, which is very strange, but it was nice to find it because it was a delightful little café. It would be fun to come here, spend some time working, and grab a coffee.
The second-to-last stop on the Montréal Dessert Tour is Maman, located at 1524 Notre-Dame St. They have locations in Montréal and New York City and is on Oprah's favorite things list, so it was an extra delight to visit this café. Side note: Shout out to my mom. She made me these pants, and I love them. They were a perfect option for late summer.
Okay, final stop! Le Blueboy: Artisan Glacier is located at 150 Mont-Royal Ave.
As you can see, it was a popular spot. They had fun decorating, with many retro items up on the wall. I got a fruit sorbet mix, and Justin got a traditional ice cream mix. We all liked our ice cream for this ice cream parlor.
We did a lot of walking on this trip and infused caffeine throughout the day. You do not want to neglect your energy levels, people. The better things about living in a metropolitan area is seeing how different people just come and enjoy public spaces. One of my favorite things is to go to a park and enjoy the weather and the marvelous views.
