2022 Dessert Wrap-up

How late is too late to showcase a dessert wrap-up for the previous year? Seven months?
Ah, no matter - I will do it anyway 😆.

Here is a list of my favorite Top 12 desserts from 2022.

If you are in St . Louis, you want to go to The Donut Stop located in South County, off Lemay Ferry Rd. My number 1 recommendation for this donut shop is the Blueberry Fritter. My good friend Amy gave this recommendation several months ago, and I picked one up for the first time last year. I should've grabbed more than one because they were fantastic! It has excellent texture and good flavor. You can't go wrong with this fried pastry. Next up is my number 9 pick!

A Las Vegas Highlight!

Sweet Raku is a Japanese French-style dessert eatery that makes food look like delicious fine art. This dessert-forward restaurant only seats about 20 people at a time. I ordered the sorbet trio. It was flavorful and served in a delightedly unusual way. You've probably had Peach and Mango Sorbet, but have you ever had Blueberry Sorbet with Champagne Gelatin and Cream Topping? Exactly, it's a spectacular and refreshing dessert.

All of the treats above are my hometown favorites, and I'm glad I get to enjoy these sweets throughout the year. The Oatmeal Creme Pie from Sugar and Slice is sweet, chewy, and everything I want in a sammie. It's so massive I can't finish this cookie in one sitting, so it's usually a weekend dessert. I cut it in fours and eat it over a few days. :)

Morning Goodness

Okay, the competition is getting steep. I love these treats! I could eat any one of these sweets every week of my life. My eyes light up when I see these treats behind the glass at their respective eateries. Give me either of these sweets, and I am a happy lady. It's the start of a good morning.

Shout Out to Bev!

Big thanks to our hosts, John and Bev, for inviting us to stay with them in their lovely home in Kansas City. My Number 2 pick for 2022 was Bev's homemade Japanese soufflé cheesecake. It was amazing! The texture, the slightly sweet lemon flavor. The charm of being a new dessert for me. It was the best! Have you ever had a slice of soufflé cheesecake? Please don't be jealous that my friends aren't your friends. I so appreciate them for taking good care of us this weekend.

Oh, my blueberry croissant!

One of my favorite go-to spots in Kansas City is @blackholebakery. Their standard cinnamon rolls were my favorite selection from the shop, but now it's the blueberry croissant. (Blueberry is making a good showing on this list, by the way.) I loved the sweetness and texture of this pastry! And I love the bakery even more: great sweets and friendly team members. Blackhole Bakery is a go-to every time we are in K.C.

That's 2022 for me! I will do a wrap-up for 2023 in a few months and look forward to reflecting on my year. Stay tuned to see which desserts make my list next year.
