Fall Dessert Fun
sweater weather, crisp air, & fall flavors
Every year it's the same, and I love it. Autumn is my favorite season; sweater weather, crisp air, and stand out Fall flavors. Three great reasons to love Fall but since this is a dessert blog, let's focus on that last one. I am thankful that my holidays were complete with food, family, and good times growing up. I grew up with a stepfather that loved to show off in the kitchen. This was his arena to create and I was glad to eat all his kitchen creations.
My Dad's homemade Sweet Potato Pie was my favorite dessert, and I would look forward to it every year. With the pandemic in full swing and cases on the rise, I won't visit my family, down south, this year. So sad, no Homemade Sweet Potato Pie this year, but thankfully I won't be dessert-less.
In October, I went on a Fall Treats Dessert Tour of the city and created a vlog for #nosaddesserts. Check Out the video below.
One place that I have visited a few times this season is La Patisserie, a beautiful shop in Florissant, Mo. I enjoyed meeting the owner; she was so kind and gifted me a fantastic Pumpkin cupcake. The cupcake had a lovely texture, light and fluffy, and this delicious chocolate creamy center; delightful dessert.
Another fantastic neighborhood eatery is Colleen's Cookies in Clayton, Mo. They have great food, but I especially love their desserts. I didn't want to miss out on their Halloween-themed sugar cookies and I picked up a few for my in-laws.
The last stop featured in my vlog is another Patisserie in St. Louis City proper, Chouquette— a french bakery with an imagination that won't quit! Cheers to the team there. Every year they host a Harry Potter-themed event. Ever wondered about the taste of Butterbeer and Treacle Tart? I sure did! This year, I picked up both, and I never regret my visits to this shop. Love them!
Go, Team Hufflepuff!
Throughout November, I visited many great stores and tasted what these local bakers are dishing out. A few weekends ago, Justin and I went to Made by Lia in Old Florissant. Their Hand Pies with apple filling were lovely. The pie plus a hot latte was a sweet start for a chilly morning. Earlier this month, my friends and I met for a reunion on Art Hill, and Autumn was in full swing. The leaves never looked better!
My friend Natalie was kind enough to pick up some sweetbreads from Nathaniel Reid Bakery. It's one of the best stores to grab treats that look fancy and luxurious—a perfect addition to our ladies' outing. Cheers to friendship!
